New Amnesty Push in 2020

As soon as they believe they can get away with it politically, both parties will come together to pass a sweeping “comprehensive immigration plan.” Both Democrats and Republicans have wanted such a bill to pass Congress for a long time, each for different reasons. For Democrats, it is for long-term political power. For Republicans, it is for short-term personal gain.

If any such bill were to become law, it would mean the end of the Republican Party as a governing party. They would be relegated, at least for generations if not forever, to minority status. Millions or, more likely, tens of millions of currently illegal aliens would be granted amnesty and put on a “pathway to citizenship.” If not immediately, then when Democrats come for a second bite at the apple. Make no mistake, amnesty will lead to citizenship. The point for Democrats, after all, is to get these people to vote.

A “comprehensive immigration” bill would sound, in theory, like a win for both sides. Democrats who want new voters and Republicans who want to please their big-money contributors would get their amnesty. Conservatives and immigration hawks would get their border security. Of course, this will be a sham. Amnesty would be immediate and permanent. Border security would come over time and will be stopped by the courts, future acts of Congress and future Democrat Presidents. Any such bill will almost certainly make things worse… much worse.

Now comes news that the Koch network is gearing up to push for an amnesty bill before the November elections. It is hard to believe that such a bill would be passed during an election year, but you never know. There are enough people in Congress who are in favor of amnesty to pass it and President Trump has stated many times that he supports “comprehensive immigration reform.” While getting such a bill passed this year is possible, it is not likely. It is more likely to happen early next year, whoever wins the White House.

From Breitbart:

The billionaire, pro-mass immigration Koch brothers’ network of organizations is gearing up for a full-fledged lobbying campaign to push lawmakers to pass an amnesty for up to 3.5 million illegal aliens enrolled or eligible for former President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

At the Koch network’s winter summit in Palm Springs, California — as National Review’s Jim Geraghty reported — Charles Koch Foundation President Brian Hooks told attendees more than 200 House Democrats and Republicans have said privately they want to pass an amnesty for DACA illegal aliens but are concerned over backlash.

Still, Hooks and Americans for Prosperity executive Jorge Lima said they are confident that moderate Democrats and Republicans may arise this year to start a pro-DACA amnesty coalition.

Hooks said the Koch network’s philosophy on legal and illegal immigration is effectively allowing an unlimited level of foreign nationals to arrive in the U.S. so long as they commit to “contribute” to the economy — regardless of its impact on America’s working and middle class.

“We welcome anyone who will contribute, and keep out anyone who won’t,” Hooks said.
