Jeff Woodburn, a Democrat state senator in New Hampshire recently wrote an op-ed in the Concord Monitor in an effort to garner support for his new gun control bill which would ban so-called “bump stocks.”
Instead of debating the merits of his proposal with facts, Mr. Woodburn does what most Leftists do to push their agenda… he lied.
In describing bump stocks Mr. Woodburn said the following:
That’s why I proposed legislation to ban so-called “bump stocks,” a device that converts semi-automatic weapons into fully-automatic weapons.
This, of course, is not true. Bump stocks do not change the firing mechanism of a firearm in any way. Semi-automatic firearms to which bump stocks are affixed, still require an individual trigger pull for each round fired.
In his plea for further curtailing people’s 2nd Amendment rights, there is a glaring omission. He fails to mention a single death in New Hampshire caused by someone using a bump stock. One can safely assume that the reason for this is that there have been no such deaths. However, there have been many deaths caused by firearms without bumps stocks. So, what is next? Do Democrats want to ban all semi-automatic firearms? Of course they do, although they will not admit it… yet.
Democrats, like Mr. Woodburn, will never be satisfied when it comes to restricting people’s constitutional right to keep and bear arms. They take an incremental approach which has no end. Bump stocks are just the next step. If they are banned, then Democrats will immediately begin efforts to ban something else, such as AR-15 style rifles. After that, perhaps they will seek to limit magazine capacity. Then on to requiring permits, background checks, and waiting periods to purchase ammunition. If these efforts are successful, Democrats will eventually propose banning all semi-automatic weapons. Of course, that will not satisfy them for long either – not so long as shotguns, revolvers, and bolt-action rifles are still legal.
By his own words, Mr. Woodburn proves my point. In his op-ed he also wrote the following:
Sometimes progress is made in inches, not miles, but I firmly believe this is a start.
So you see, banning bump stocks is just “a start.”
The only rational response to Leftist gun-grabbers like Senator Jeff Woodburn is to just say “No.”
