Julian Castro, a far-left Democrat from San Antonio, is making no secret of the fact that he is considering a run for president in 2020. Castro is a former mayor of San Antonio and the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under Barack Obama.
Any honest assessment of Castro would lead to the inescapable conclusion that he is completely unqualified for the job. First, the office of mayor of San Antonio is a largely ceremonial position with no real authority whatsoever. The mayor is simply a city council member who is elected at-large. The day-to-day operations of the city are performed by the city manager. The mayor’s only real job is to vote as a member of the city council and to engage in public relations ceremonial activities, such as a ribbon-cutting at a new McDonald’s location. Hardly relevant experience for president.
Second, the only other position Mr. Castro has held was HUD Secretary. A job he thoroughly botched. When Ben Carson took over as HUD Secretary in 2017, he ordered an audit of the department. The findings proved how poorly-run HUD was under Secretary Castro, included hundred of billions of dollars in accounting errors. This should not be at all surprising. This is what happens when you put an inexperienced slip-and-fall lawyer and part-time ceremonial mayor in charge of a federal department. The only thing worse would be to make this lightweight President of the United States.
Castro is a long-shot candidate, but then again, so was Barack Obama. And like Obama, Julian Castro is a committed Leftist whose entire political career is based on his race. He is every bit as radical, if not more so, than Barack Obama and just as unqualified. There is much more to write about Castro, and I will do so in the future if he becomes relevant. In the meantime, keep an eye on this guy.
