Republican Senator Rand Paul was assaulted by a neighbor while cutting the grass at this home in Kentucky. Paul was tackled from behind and thrown to the ground by his neighbor Rene Boucher. According to reports, Boucher is a retired physician and a left-wing political extremist.
Kelsey Cooper, Paul’s Kentucky communications director, issued a statement to the Bowling Green Daily News indicating that “Senator Paul is fine.”
“Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault,” Cooper said in an email. “The assailant was arrested and it is now a matter for the police.”
Boucher was arrested and charged with one count of 4th degree assault. We was jailed in lieu of a $5,000 bond. Additional, or more serious charges could be filed based on the extent of Senator Paul’s injuries.
